Molecular biomarkers in human pathologies from fast field- cycling MRI

چکیده
Fast Field-Cycling (FFC) is an NMR technique that involves changing the main magnetic field during the pulse sequence, which provides an extra dimension to the experimenter. It is a rich technique that is well known to characterise molecular dynamics with various applications already demonstrated in polymer matrices, porous media, liquid crystals and many other systems [1]. However, much work remains to be been done on the applications of FFC NMR in medical applications.

Rapid field-cycling MRI using fast spin-echo.
PURPOSE Fast field-cycling MRI (FFC-MRI) is a technique that promises to expand upon the diagnostic capabilities of conventional MRI by allowing the main field, B0 , to be varied during a pulse sequence, thus allowing access to new types of endogenous contrast. However, this necessitates longer scan times, which can limit the technique's application to clinical research. In this paper, an adapt...
متن کاملField-cycling NMR relaxometry with spatial selection.
Fast field-cycling MRI offers access to sources of endogenous information not available from conventional fixed-field imagers. One example is the T(1) dispersion curve: a plot of T(1) versus field strength. We present a pulse sequence that combines saturation-recovery/inversion-recovery T(1) determination with field cycling and point-resolved spectroscopy localization, enabling the measurement ...
متن کاملThe use of contrast agents with fast field-cycling magnetic resonance imaging.
Fast field-cycling (FFC) MRI allows switching of the magnetic field during an imaging scan. FFC-MRI takes advantage of the T(1) dispersion properties of contrast agents to improve contrast, thus enabling more sensitive detection of the agent. A new contrast agent designed specifically for use with FFC was imaged using both a homebuilt FFC-MRI system and a 3 T Philips clinical MRI scanner. T(1) ...

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been considered a perfect imaging study for evaluation of shoulder pathologies despite occasional discrepancies between MR reports and arthroscopic findings. In this study we aim to evaluate impact of imaging center as an indicator of image quality on accuracy of MRI reports in diagnosis of rotator cuff tendon pathologies. Methods: We re...
متن کاملTechniques and Bio-medical Applications of Field-cycling Magnetic Resonance
NMR relaxometry refers to the measurement of relaxation times (usually T1) as a function of magnetic field strength. It is usually accomplished using fast field-cycling (FFC), in which the magnetic field is switched rapidly between levels during the pulse sequence. By switching the magnetic field, the nuclear spins can “evolve” at a chosen magnetic field strength, after which the magnetic field...
